Ah yes. The day the delivery truck pulled up in front of the gallery on that almost spring like day, a day we won't soon forget! As the delivery driver approached the door to announce his arrival, we were already pulling on our jackets to start the movement of our newest addition. With all hands on deck running back and forth for about half an hour, we finally unloaded 4 full pallets of our very own, straight from Germany itself, Luxe Fine Art Matte Paper!
We had been anticipating the arrival of this special paper for a few weeks at this point, and between the typical snowstorms of spring on the rock, and holidays falling around the delivery date, we were bursting at the seams by the time it actually arrived!
So, you're all now wondering what is so wonderful about this paper? It's just paper after all. Like, who gets excited for paper? Prepare yourselves!
The first thing you need to remember is that we are a crazy passionate business. There isn't one person who works here that isn't 110% committed to and excited about the role they play in making Newfoundland Canvas a thing! We love our jobs, we love our coworkers, our clients, the whole nine yards! So naturally, whenever a new toy or product arrives, we dive into learning about it and testing it and comparing it!
While the paper will speak for itself when you see and touch it for the first time (which of course you will have to do!), we'll fill in the blanks.
Luxe Fine Art Matte
The name is as fabulous as the paper! Who doesn't want to print on a paper with a name that fancy? Adam flew to Germany in search of the perfect paper, and this is it! Straight from the source. And we are the only lab in North America to have matte paper in 5 & 6 inch rolls, to accompany our 8 & 12 inch rolls. Meaning we are a FULL matte lab!
This matte paper is perfect for basically anything you can think of. If you plan to put your photos in a frame we 110% recommend this, as there is no resin coating (what makes luster and glossy paper shiny and reflective) to the paper, so it will not stick over time- same goes for putting them in photo albums! If you had planned to dry mount the images to then frame without glass, doing so is much easier with a matte finish.
The image above shows our luster paper (top) laid flat on a table by a window next to our Luxe Fine Art Matte paper (bottom). This is the best way to show the difference in the two. The luster paper has a very obvious sheen to it, and the images fades to the shine as the light hits it. The matte paper holds its colour despite the window light hitting it directly, and doesn't it's vibrancy doesn't change regardless of how close to a light source you hold it, making it very easy to look at anywhere!
So! That's our new Luxe Fine Art Matte paper! If you're still not convinced or think we're all crazy for being so in love with it, please pop by the gallery and take a look for yourselves! We have endless sample images printed and ready to be examined!
